We are taught that most people don't use their eyes and ears and that a flower is a magnificent creation and that our greatest weapons are reason and lack of fear and that whatever man can imagine he can do. What they also must face -and so, alas must the reader -are a number of lessons, moral and intellectual, pointedly designed to uplift and instruct. The only road to this wonderful land, where flowers smell of baked bread and the rivers are golden, is the road of imagination, but the three Potter children, led by Professor Savant, manage to get there.īefore they actually reach the Whangdoodle's palace, however, there are challenges and dangers they must face: an attack by the warty‐skinned Sidewinders, a trip throngh the ominous Forest of the Tree Squeaks, trickery, treachery, insults, roadblocks and kidnapping. ![]() (Ages 9 to 12) sorted other extraordinary creatures-the fluffy‐feathered Whiffle Bird, the silky and sibilant High‐Behind Splintercat and the oily Prock.
